Notes on pedagogical utilization
This learning object is based on current scientific data concerning the origin of infectious diseases, mainly ones from the 20th and 21st century, which are cases of Emerging Infectious Diseases. They can be used for group or classroom discussions, or argumentation concerning how modern lifestyle can lead to the emergence of new diseases. The learning object can be used in an inquiry-based-learning context by having students answer scientific questions by synthesizing piecies of information from it, or comparing them with complementary data (e.g. urbanization or population map). Moreover, students can focus on certain diseases, possibly different for each student group, in the form of case studies or short projects.
