Description
The current Digital Learning Object provides students with some selective informative sources (2 videos, 2 adapted text excerpts, 3 infographics) concerning the social determinants of health focusing on the COVID-19 pandemic. Students can freely navigate within the sources so as to work critically on them in order to approach different complementary aspects of the topic.
Notes on pedagogical utilization
This learning object provides students with 2 videos, 2 text excerpts, and 3 infographics concerning authentic cases and data of social determinants of health. The sources are available for been examined critically, which means having students to locate, interpret, compare, evaluate, and compose information from the sources, on their own or within small groups. The critical examination of the sources could be used to provoke classroom or group discussions, argumentation about health disparities and their scientific and social context, or within the context of ethical values and argumentation on favour of confronting and minimizing disparities. The piecies of information from the sources can be organized with the aid of graphic organizers (e.g. concept maps, flowcharts). Moreover, the learning object can be used within an inquiry context, within which students try to answer to scientific question through the critical examination of sources.
