Description
This is a tool that creates concept maps. A node appears when the + sign is pressed. The user can enter the concept into the node. Every other node is created in the same way. A node is selected when by clicking on it. The size of the node changes by dragging its blue dots. A proposition is creating by linking two nodes. A link is created by dragging one arrow from a node to one arrow of another node. By clicking on the link (line), a textbox appears to enter the text of the link’s label. If no word (verb) is written above the arrows, the concept map turns into a mind map, a simpler graphic oranizer form.
Notes on pedagogical utilization
Concept maps can be made by each student personally or in small groups (e.g. in pairs) collaboratively. They can be featured in every educational context the semantic connections among several, mainly new, concepts need to be hghlighted, independent from the school subject. The more connections and cross-links a concept map has, the more advanced is considered to be. Students can make concept maps in several cases, for instance to express (externalize) their conceptions and views on a topic, to revise or get familiar the core concepts of a topic, to get assessed on the conceptual understanding of a topic, to diagrammatically depict the content of one or more sources (e.g. texts, infographics, videos), or to diagrammatically depict the conclusions of their work on a project. It is common to provide students with some central concepts and links in order to help them start the development of a concept map. The teacher can, also, make concept maps to concentrate the core concepts of a topic or to guide the instruction procedure. Mind maps are simpler forms of concept maps, where concepts are linked to one another with arrows, as well, but there are no verbs above the arrows. They are easier to make, but they depict less information, since they depicted the links among concepts, yet do not clarify the kind of each connection.
