Mechanisms of specific immune response
Description
This learning object presents the main stages of specific (or adavptive) immune response against a bacterial and viral infection visually, as well as the comparison between primary and secondary immune response. The roles of antibodies and memory cells are emphasized.
Notes on pedagogical utilization
This visualization could be used either by students themselves who can freely explore the stages and cases of specific immune response, or can be used by the teacher in order to enhance direct instruction. It is suggested to emphasize the roles of the participating cells and substances, the comparizon between bacterial and viral infection, the primary and secondary immune response, and the match of the antibodies curve to the stages of the immune response.
